About Us & Luke

Luke Hagedoorn has been around horses his entire life. From breaking and breeding through to competing at state level in polocrosse and camp drafting, he’s developed a depth of horsemanship built across decades of real-world experience with horses of every temperament, background and level of training.

That experience now underpins a range of services aimed at riders and businesses who want more than theory. Luke’s clinics attract a wide-ranging audience — from first-time handlers building a solid foundation, through to experienced station managers looking for better tools to train and manage their teams.

What sets Luke apart

There are riders more talented than Luke — he’d be the first to acknowledge that. What sets him apart isn’t the ceiling of his horsemanship. It’s his ability to take what he knows, articulate it clearly, and deliver it in a way that actually sticks across a room of riders at very different levels.

Most experienced horsemen have deep knowledge. Not all of them can teach it. And fewer still can do both simultaneously while managing a volatile group of mixed-experience riders on mixed-experience horses — adapting in real time without losing structure or safety.

That combination is what makes the difference between training that sounds good and training that actually works.

Pitching at the right level

With experienced riders and station managers, the conversation isn’t about teaching them to ride — it’s about equipping them with tools and frameworks to train and manage their own teams more effectively. With less experienced riders, it’s about building competency from a safe, structured foundation. The same session serves both.

Credentials

Lifelong horseman · Extensive horse breaking and breeding background · State-level polocrosse — Western Australia · Accomplished camp drafter · Horsemanship clinics — all experience levels · Based in Kojonup, Western Australia

Our last clinic with Luke saw ladies who hadn’t ridden in over three years canter on their horses with confidence. We were also able to watch and learn as Luke worked through some on-ground issues with a pushy gelding. All was done with a healthy dose of good humour and our riders left with smiles on their faces.

You can expect to learn the essentials of groundwork and refine valuable riding skills that will increase your confidence and connection with your horse.”

Honestly was so good, can’t thank you enough! Definitely highlighted some of my riding areas, and where I need to improve, like getting the feet moving more to become softer in the mouth, and being less “handsy!”

“Loved the breakdown of the different paint layers, and the way you explained it really stuck in my head. Really enjoyed the way you demonstrated his shoulder issues by using groundwork and long reins. Altogether really great.” KT, 2025
